A 16-year-old Burleson teenager was killed Sunday morning in an accident at Hidden Creek Parkway and Burleson Boulevard in Burleson. The identity of the victim is being withheld until family is notified.
The accident was reported shortly after 8:30 a.m. The accident occurred in the 900 block of Southwest Burleson Boulevard at the intersection with the Hidden Creek Parkway access ramp. Southwest Burleson Boulevard is a two-lane, one-way road at that point.
According to the on-scene police sergeant, a tractor-trailer rig was in the right lane on Burleson Boulevard attempting to exit on to Hidden Creek Parkway. The tractor-trailer made a wide right turn, and as it did, the 16-year-old’s pickup attempted to pass the tractor-trailer on the right side.
The pickup made glancing contact with the tractor-trailer and then veered to the right, went off the road and rolled. The on-scene sergeant said witnesses reported that the pickup driver was traveling at a high rate of speed.
A representative from the Johnson County Medical Examiners Office pronounced the driver of the pickup dead at the scene. A passenger in the pickup did not suffer any major injuries. The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured.
The Burleson Police Department, Burleson Fire Department and Department of Public Safety worked the accident. The incident is still under investigation.
