AUSTIN — The large contingent of Crowley High School representatives at the University Interscholastic League Track and Field Championships only brought home one medal, but it was a golden one.
Ryan Green took first in the girls’ Class 4A high jump, clearing the bar at 5 feet, 10 inches to best the 5 feet, 7 inch jump of second-place Aron Garcia of Dickinson High School.
Crowley competed in nine different events May 9, but Green was the only competitor to medal for the Eagles.
Both Crowley 800-meter relay squads finished sixth May 9, with the boys’ team of Herbert Shaw, Kent Onouha, Isaiah Symond and Terrance Edwards clocking in at 1:27.18.
The girls squad of Kierstein Andrew, Candace Tynes, DeOna Stafford and Kendra Brown finished in 1:41.50.
The Crowley boys 400-meter relay team of Shaw, Edwards, Stan Smith and Onouha also finished sixth in their event, completing the race in 41.59 seconds.
Onouha also added a seventh-place finish in the 100-meter run, recording a time of 10.75 seconds, and Smith ran the 400 run in 48.86 seconds to place fifth.
Edwards also earned an individual fifth-place finish, completing the 200 run in 21.68 seconds.
Wesley Harold finished sixth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.5 seconds, and Pat Briscoe leaped 44 feet, 2 1/2 inches to earn seventh place in the boys triple jump.
Burleson junior Katie Hoalridge ran the 800-meter run May 10 and finished just short of the medal podium, finishing fourth with a time of 2:11.72, less than a half second behind third-place finisher Aliese Hyde of Killeen Harker Heights, who posted a time of 2:11.26.
The winner of the event was Tiffany Singleton of Houston Westside, who ran the 800 meters with a time of 2:10.85.
North Crowley earned sixth place in the girls’ 1600-meter relay, the only event the Lady Panthers qualified for and the last event of the meet, as sophomore Lola Omopariola and seniors Markeisha Dudley, Melanie Boykins and Clarrisa Toomer teamed up to finish the race in 3:48.15.
Dallas Skyline won the event, and claimed the overall girls’ Class 5A championship, edging second place DeSoto High School with a time of 3:42.25.
