The Crowley Eagles improved to 12-1 on the season with a 56-49 road victory over Fort Worth Eastern Hills last Tuesday, 56-49.
After opening a 12-9 lead during the first eight minutes of play, the Eagles and Eastern Hills matched each other point for point in the second quarter, allowing Crowley to take a 28-25 cushion into the halftime intermission.
The Eagles were unable to open up a big lead, but managed to add to their halftime advantage with a 12-11 scoring edge in the third period.
Crowley outscored Eastern Hills, 16-13, in the fourth quarter to earn the victory.
Tim Meadows had 18 points to lead the Eagles.
GIRLS
North Crowley 69, Weatherford 52
Senior standout Brittainey Raven opened District 4-5A with a vengeance, netting 40 points as the North Crowley Lady Panthers hammered the Weatherford Lady Roos last Tuesday, 69-52.
With the win, North Crowley improved to 10-4 overall, 1-0 in the league. Weatherford dropped to 12-4 on the season, 0-1 in district.
North Crowley took a 13-7 lead after the first period and used a 19-16 scoring edge in the second quarter to go into the locker room at the break with a 32-23 advantage.
The Lady Panthers began to pull away in the second half, beginning with a 22-13 scoring advantage in the third quarter, moving out to a 54-36 lead heading into the final eight minutes of play.
Weatherford outscored North Crowley in the final frame, but not by enough to make a difference in the outcome.
Joining Raven in double figures for the Lady Panthers was Krystal Davis, who had 11 points.
Kelsie Rozendaal had 24 points to lead Weatherford, while Katie McCasland finished with 12 points.
Mansfield Summit 79, Burleson 37
The Burleson Lady Elks fell in their District 4-5A opener last Tuesday against the Mansfield Summit Lady Jaguars, 79-37.
The Lady Elks (4-8, 0-1) trailed by just five points at the end of the first quarter, but Summit (1-0 in district) used big runs in the final three frames to get the win.
Aimee Badgett led Burleson with 11 points, while Shalyn Martin had 16 points to lead Summit.
Kennedale 51, Crowley 45
The Kennedale Lady Wildcats used a 16-8 run in the third quarter to take control and held off the Crowley Lady Eagles in the fourth, picking up a 51-45 victory last Tuesday.
Kennedale (10-5) trailed the Lady Eagles (7-10) by four points at the half, 23-19.
But the Lady Wildcats’ 16-8 scoring surge in the third period allowed Kennedale to take a 35-31 lead into the fourth quarter.
From there, the Lady Wildcats held off the Lady Eagles en route to the win.
Samantha Mahnesmith had a game-high 34 points to lead Kennedale, while Brittany Terry paced Crowley with 12 points.
