Crowley falls to Waxahachie

WAXAHACHIE — Waxahachie shook off a disappointing loss and some personnel changes to even its District 15-4A football record.
And the Indians (4-3, 1-1) played a complete game in the process, with steady ball movement, key defensive stops and strong special teams play to post a 42-13 win Friday over Crowley at Lumpkins Stadium.

The WHS offensive line opened up holes for tailback Kinnorise Dickerson, who carried 18 times for 163 yards and two touchdowns. As a team, the Indians gained 384 yards of offense.
But the defense was just as big a factor.

One week after giving up lengthy drives during an unexpected 23-21 loss at Midlothian, Waxahachie allowed only one scoring series by the Eagles (2-5, 0-2) and held a slim 14-13 lead at the half.
But over the final two quarters, the Eagles managed only 66 total yards — 198 for the night — and four first downs.

Crowley began the game’s opening offensive series from its 20, gaining a first down as Drew Graham carried twice for 11 yards. But quarterback Colby Ray was stopped for a 2-yard loss on the option keeper by WHS linebacker Kevin McCluskey, and the drive stalled.

Lester’s punt gave Waxahachie possession at its 34. Dickerson carried for 26 yards on the first play, then runs by Dickerson and wingback James Robinson on the counter play netted a first down at the Eagle 25.

But a fumble on the following play was scooped up by Crowley’s Craig

Washington at the 19, and he went 81 yards untouched to the end
zone. Lester kicked the extra point, and it was a 7-0 Eagle lead with 6:52left in the quarter.

The Indians came right back to tie the score as McCluskey scored from six yards out. Colton Dobbins added the PAT to knot the game at 7-7.

After an exchange of punts, Crowley took over at its 28.

Nine plays and 72 yards later, the Eagles were ahead with Shaw doing most of the work. He scored on a 2-yard carry, but the extra-point try was wide, keeping the score, 13-7.

Waxahachie came right back with a scoring drive to take the lead for good. Ryan Wilson found Aldrick Robinson on a 15-yard touchdown pass and Dobbins added the PAT for a 14-13 lead.
Dickerson extended the lead to 21-13 with a 2-yard touchdown run with 10:24 to go in the third period.

From there, Waxahachie pulled away for the win.
