FORT WORTH — North Crowley (6-1, 3-1) scored 45 unanswered points to defeat Granbury (0-7, 0-4) in what started as a defensive slugfest. North Crowley’s defense scored the knockout blow with two defensive touchdowns and set up the offense with a short field on another drive to put the game on ice.
The Panther defense gave up over 300 yards of offense for the first time this year as Granbury racked up 331 yards of offense, with 268 coming through the air. Andrew Mellencamp had some big gains mixed in the 16 completions on 28 attempts for 257 yards.
Granbury started off fast Mellencamp completed a 37-yard touchdown pass to Justice Baker. Jacob Frey added the extra point to give Granbury the quick 7-0 lead.
North Crowley did put together an 8-play drive at the end of the first quarter to tie the game at 7-7. Jeff Panfil was 2-of-3 passing on the drive as he hit Broderic Terry over a Granbury defender in the end zone for 21 yards. Adi Kunalic the extra point
Panfil later scored from three yards out to culminate a 99-yard drive to make it 14-7.
Early in the third quarter, North Crowley was in business at midfield. Just four plays later, Panfil essentially put the game out of reach. He found Chris Ford in the corner of the end zone for the 28-yard touchdown pass.
Kunalic later hit a school-record and career-long 50-yard field goal and Charles Davis reeled in a 37-yard touchdown pass to give Crowley a 31-7 lead.
Anthony Anderson had his second interception, this time taking it all the way in for the touchdown and the rout was on.
The defense added another touchdown late with A. J. Prisco scooping up a Mellencamp fumble and taking it in 31 yards and the touchdown.
Panfil finished with 179 yards passing on just eight completions.
