Police, firefighters prepare to square off for charity

Burleson firefighters and Burleson police officers will take their talents to the gridiron on Dec. 12 in the annual Blue vs. Red charity flag football game.
This is the ninth year that the two public safety departments will meet. The tally is six wins for the fire department and two for the police department.
The firefighters won in 2008 as both teams battled wind gusts up to 40 miles per hour.
The game benefits Heart for the Kids and is hosted by the Burleson Professional Fire Fighters Association Local No. 4025 and Burleson Police Officers Association.
The game will start at 2 p.m. at the stadium at Kerr Middle School on Johnson Avenue. The cost of admission is one unwrapped toy for a needy child.
Four bicycles, $120 in cash and 120 toys were donated to Heart For The Kids in 2008 through the Blue vs. Red game.
This year Heart For The Kids will distribute donated items to families from Dec. 14-17.

Santa preparing to call
Burleson children

Burleson children may receive a phone call next month from Santa Claus thanks to the North Pole Calling program coordinated by the City of Burleson’s parks and recreation department.
Santa’s helpers will help Saint Nick coordinate the phone calls, which will be made from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Dec. 14-17.
These calls are geared toward children from prekindergarten through second grade and are for Burleson residents and BISD students only.
Children have to send their parents to the Burleson Community Center or Burleson Public Library to make an appointment with Santa.
Informational fliers about the phone calls from the North Pole are being distributed through the Burleson Independent School District’s elementary campuses.
Completed forms must be returned to the Burleson Community Center no later than Dec. 2, so Santa has time to compile his list. The center is located at 500 Chisenhall Park Lane.
For information about North Pole Calling, call the parks and recreation department at 817-295-8168.
