Library offers levels of membership

The Burleson Public Library now offers two levels of memberships.
Library customers are eligible for a library card if they live in Burleson or own property within the Burleson city limits. Nonresidents who do not pay city taxes may purchase an annual membership for $25 for a single user or $50 for a family membership. Memberships include an unlimited number of checkouts.
The Internet-only and $5 punch cards expired Nov. 1, but library customers who have punch cards can have the remaining balance credited to an annual membership.
Applications for cards are available at the library at 248 S.W. Johnson Ave. Applicants must have photo identification. Children under 18 must have a parent or legal guardian with them.
If the address on the identification is not current, library staff will accept other forms of identification that show the correct address, including a printed personal check, utility bill, first class mail, vehicle insurance card, vehicle registration, lease agreement or pay stub.
The Burleson Public Library offers weekly story times, an after-school teen room, and a large selection of books, DVDs, and music CDs and computers with Internet access.
For information, call the library at 817-295-6131.

Burleson HS grad
completes Navy basic

Navy Seaman James L. Mathews, a 2008 graduate of Burleson High School recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.
During the eight-week program, Mathews completed a variety of training which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis was also placed on physical fitness.
The capstone event of boot camp is “Battle Stations.” This exercise gives recruits the skills and confidence they need to succeed in the fleet. “Battle Stations” is designed to galvanize the basic warrior attributes of sacrifice, dedication, teamwork and endurance in each recruit through the practical application of basic Navy skills and the core values of honor, courage and commitment.
Its distinctly “Navy” flavor was designed to take into account what it means to be a sailor.

fees are $50 for residential permits and $100 for commercial permits.

Go Fish to perform at Lighthous Church

Jamie Statema, Jason Folkmann and Andy Selness, who perform as Go Fish, will appear at 6 p.m. Saturday at Lighthouse Church in Burleson.
Go Fish perform music for children and families and create amazing sounds with just their voices and percussion.
It’s a rock ‘n’ roll show, said the group, tailor-made for kids.
“There’s a misconception out there of what children’s music has to be,” said Selness. “Quite honestly, it doesn’t have to be simple. You don’t have to dumb down music for kids. Because of that, parents really enjoy this music as well.”
Lighthouse Church is located at 301 S. Dobson in Burleson. For information call 817-295-7671 or visit lighthouseburleson.org.
