FORT WORTH — The Abilene Eagles defeated the North Crowley Panthers 20-10.
The Panthers held Abilene to almost 29 points below its scoring average.
Abilene opened the game by marching down the field and scored on a Zach Bass 4-yard scoring sprint.
The Panthers answered by driving the ball inside the Eagles’ 30, but had to settle for a field goal attempt from Jacob Smith who kicked it through.
Two possessions later, North Crowley was forced to punt and Abilene again started in Panther territory.
Five plays later, Bass rushed for another touchdown to extend the Eagle lead.
In the second quarter, North Crowley recovered two fumbles, but couldn’t generate any offense and missed a field goal attempt from 42 yards.
Late in the fourth quarter, the Eagles held a 13-3 lead with North Crowley driving to the Abilene 9, but the Panthers were stopped on fourth down.
On the next play, Bass sealed the deal with a 91-yard burst. He finished the night with three total scores on the ground and 188 yards rushing.
North Crowley ended up scoring another touchdown late to trim the final deficit to 10.
The Panthers will play Arlington High this week at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Birdville Fine Arts/Athletic Complex
