CROWLEY – After three quick first-quarter scores, Crowley allowed two Mansfield Legacy touchdowns in the second quarter but held on with strong defensive stands late in the game to win, 31-21.
Mansfield Legacy threw two interceptions late in the fourth quarter after nearly tying the game with less than nine minutes left in the game.
Crowley put six points on the board with 9:37 on the first quarter clock after quarterback Andre Dean scampered for a 45-yard score. Legacy fumbled on its next possession, and the Eagles marched 24 yards downfield before Chris Allen capped the 7-play, 3:21 drive with a 1-yard run.
The Broncos picked up a few first downs on its next possession and made it to the 25-yard line before throwing an interception. Crowley scored four plays later with 1:22 left on the first-quarter clock on a 53-yard run by Dean.
Legacy scored twice in the second quarter, including a 1-yard run as time expired, to go to halftime down by seven.
A scoreless third quarter led to a nail biting final frame for the Eagles.
The Broncos tied the game with 8:52 left on the game clock on a 15-yard run.
Crowley fumbled its next possession with 8:38 on the clock on its own 33-yard line. After a couple quick pickups of five and three yards, the Eagles’ defense stuffed the Broncos twice.
Unable to score, Crowley punted to Legacy after four plays, but got the ball back just a few plays later when the Eagles intercepted a Broncos’ pass with 3:50 on the clock that resulted in a Crowley field goal from 36 yards out by Aaron Jones.
