Randy Sheridan: The final leg and counting, and counting, and counting

Like a sprinter’s run for the finish line, he turns the last corner and summons the last of any energy he has remaining as the race for the highest office in the land tightens heading into the final week.
Depending on who you listen to and believe, either the race is all but over, and Obama will win by a landslide, or it’s close enough to call it anybody’s race.
If the left wing laissez-faire media, aka Obama’s press spokesmen, has its way, the race is already in the bag for the most popular Democratic nominee ever.
Like the election of 2000, when the “drive by media” was reporting that Gore had won Florida and was the next president, so they are already crowning Obama.
Even though Sen. McCain clearly won the third and final debate, the liberal anchors and their hacks simply could not bring themselves to even suggest McCain did well. The Obama worshippers naively accept the message of socialism in its early stages at the hands of their hero.
But remember, George Bush reportedly lost all of his debates to smooth talking Mr. Kerry.
Voters are coming out of the woodwork during early voting, and the rallying cry from both sides of the aisle has awakened an enormous giant of voter turnout for this election. This time next week we will have a new president-elect, maybe.
A couple of weeks ago, I was privileged to attend the Texas Restoration Project’s pastor’s policy briefing in Austin along with about a 1,000 other pastors and leaders from across the state. Gov. Rick Perry, historian David Barton and former candidate Gov. Mike Huckabee were there as well.
As good fortune would have, the table that I sat at down front was next to Huckabee’s. It was an honor to visit with him for a little while and of course get a picture as well.
Perry spoke appreciatively of so many churches from across the state that helped out on the coast following Hurricane Ike and Huckabee spoke of the need for the church to stay involved in all that goes on in our country.
Perhaps some of you have questions as to just how much a church can or cannot do when it comes to politics. The IRS has indicated that “the political campaign activity prohibition is not intended to restrict free expression on political matters by leaders of charitable organizations, including churches, speaking for themselves, as individuals. Nor are leaders prohibited from speaking about important issues of public policy.
Similarly, the prohibition on political campaign activity does not prohibit charitable organizations from having contact of any kind with individuals who are candidates for public office. A church may invite political candidates to speak in their capacity as candidates without jeopardizing its tax-exempt status if the organization takes steps to ensure that:
• It provides an equal opportunity to other political candidates seeking the same office,
• It does not indicate any support of or opposition to any candidate, and
• No political fund-raising occurs in conjunction with the speech.”
Nevertheless, attack dogs from the left will relentlessly try to intimidate any and every conservative voice that dares to speak out against socialistic agenda coming from the far left.
The election is by all means nearing the end. It is without a doubt on the final leg. Hopefully, ACORN and voter fraud will not destroy our election process, and by this time next week we will not be counting, counting, and continuing to recount your votes.
