Dan-O Strong was named the new president of the Burleson Area Chamber of Commerce after serving as the organization’s interim director for several months.
Strong was selected from a field of about 20 applicants, said Kent Tucker, a chamber board member and chairman of the search committee. The board considered three finalists before unanimously choosing Strong.
“We had a number of very, very good candidates, Dan-O certainly being one,” Tucker said.
Strong has a good business background and is a solid event planner, a characteristic he exhibited during his time as interim director, Tucker said.
“He has been moving the chamber forward,” Tucker said. “We are just very excited to have him and excited for what’s on the horizon.”
He said he is eager to see Strong and the board continue working together to stabilize the chamber while pursuing new avenues such as the future Old Town Farmers Market.
Strong said he is also excited to begin new chamber projects, and he would like to see the chamber receive accreditation.
“I’ll be seeking permission from our board of directors to seek accreditation,” he said. “Working towards accreditation is a one-year process. It takes a year just to get all the paperwork done.”
Strong said the chamber needs to be involved in city and state issues that affect its members, and he believes identifying and adopting the accreditation standards will help improve the chamber’s quality.
“It just helps draw those guidelines you need to be a more professional organization,” he said.
Having the opportunity to pursue such goals is a blessing, he said
“To me, it’s a gift to be able to work with people and help them grow their businesses,” he said. “When I wake up in the morning, I just feel good about helping people, but they are helping me as much as I am helping them. Together we can grow into one heck of a chamber.
