A joint investigation by the Burleson Police Department and the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office resulted in the arrest of two 16-year-old Burleson residents Aug. 5.
The names of the boy and girl arrested have not been released as both are juveniles. Both, who were believed to be armed, were taken into custody by Burleson police in connection with a burglary in the Oak Valley subdivision. The pair are believed to be connected with multiple offenses in the Johnson County area.
BPD’s SWAT team, assisted by Johnson County’s Stop the Offender Special Crimes Unit, executed a search warrant about 7 p.m. at a home in the 9000 block of County Road 528. Officers recovered about $10,000 worth of property.
The pair are believed to have participated in at least two offenses, an aggravated robbery and a home burglary committed between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m. Aug. 4.
The aggravated robbery occurred in a home northeast of Burleson city limits on Noe Lane while the homeowners were present, according to reports. A handgun belonging to the victim and other personal property was taken.
The 16-year-old boy located a weapon belonging to the homeowners during the burglary, according to JCSO reports. The boy pointed the gun at the wife of the household after she discovered him and the girl in a bedroom, which had been ransacked by the two suspects. The boy and girl fled the scene. Alerted by his wife’s screams, the husband chased the pair, but they got away. The homeowners subsequently discovered the teens had broken into one of their vehicles and used the garage door opener to gain entry into their house.
Two hours later, a laptop computer, alcoholic beverages, jewelry, at least one shotgun and other items were taken in a home burglary in Burleson’s Oak Valley subdivision.
At 10 a.m. a witness called Burleson police to report the license plate of a gold Ford Explorer after seeing the pair parked in the truck in a Burleson park discarding property in the parking lot.
BPD and JCSO launched a joint investigation as the description of the suspects the witness gave matched both crimes.
JCSO alerted BPD at 10:39 a.m. Aug. 5 to be on the lookout for the suspects who committed Monday’s home invasion in Johnson County. Several minutes before that alert, Burleson officers had responded to a call of suspicious people in Oak Valley. Officers found several documents belonging to a resident in that area, went to that home and confirmed that it had been burglarized.
Later Tuesday, Burleson officer Kasey Martin stopped a truck matching the Explorer’s description. A consensual search uncovered jewelry later confirmed to be among property stolen from the Oak Valley home. A search of the home on CR 528 uncovered guns, jewelry, digital cameras, computers and other items. The majority of stolen property has been identified and returned to the owners, police said.
The suspects apparently knocked on front doors to see if anyone was home and forced their way in if not, according to reports.
Burleson officers arrested the pair on charges of burglary of a habitation. The JCSO subsequently filed additional charges of aggravated robbery, burglary of a habitation, three counts of theft between $15,000 to $20,000 and two counts of burglary of a vehicle.
