Crowley students preparing to go back to school can dodge long hours in doctors’ waiting rooms by stopping by a local pharmacy to receive immunizations without an appointment.
Kroger’s pharmacy is offering a number of vaccinations for students ages 14 and up, said Jennuh Reeves, a public relations representative for Kroger. Receiving mandatory vaccinations without having to schedule an appointment is ideal for parents who juggle shopping for school supplies with other back-to-school preparations, she said.
“This is not the first year for the program, however this is the first time it is really being recognized as they have added vaccines such as Gardasil,” Reeves said. “The availability of the immunizations will be ongoing.”
Pharmacist Matt Johansen, who will administer the immunizations for the Kroger in Crowley, said area residents may stop by and receive vaccinations any day he is working.
“Just call ahead to make sure I’m here,” he said. “You may also want to call your insurance company beforehand to make sure they will cover it.”
Unlike vaccinations a patient would receive at a doctor’s office, Kroger’s immunizations are paid for out of pocket, Johansen said. Patients then mail the receipts to their insurance company for reimbursement.
“If a patient’s prescription insurance does not cover the immunization, receipts will be given so that the patient can pursue reimbursement from their medical insurance,” Reeves said.
Vaccines are crucial for students so they do not spread diseases at their campus, said Johansen, who administers three or four immunizations a week.
