Bicentennial Park gets new facilities just in time

Three days before Crowley’s Celebration of Freedom event at Bicentennial Park, construction crews installed the prefabricated restrooms the city council approved months before.
Having the new facilities in place before the Independence Day festivities began was important to council members, some of whom worried at recent meetings that the restrooms would not be delivered in time.
“The restrooms were running a few days later than initially planned because of government paperwork,” Councilman Johnny Shotwell said after Wednesday’s installation.
A crane was used to put the building in place, and the old restroom will eventually be torn down, according to the agenda for the March 6 council meeting.
The old bathroom was open during Celebration of Freedom because concrete had not yet peen poured around the new facility to make it handicap-accessible, Shotwell said.
The new building, which was paid for by the city’s gas lease fund, can accommodate up to four occupants on each side.
