Elks lead 4-5A squad

The Burleson Elks placed several players on the District 4-5A baseball team, including one superlative honor.
Burleson’s Justin Watson was the co-sophomore of the year and three other Elks earned first-team selections.
Will Grimes was a first-team pitcher, Jesus Sanchez earned the nod at first base and Brad Schaeffer was in the first-team outfield.
The Elks also had a pair of players make the second team as second baseman Scotty Montez and utility player Shane Broyles were selected for the team by the district’s coaches.
North Crowley had a trio of players selected to the squad, led by pitcher Ryan Beckman and outfielder Chris Slimmer, who were first-team selections.
Panther designated hitter Luke Williamson earned a spot on the second team.
The district’s most valuable players were Weatherford’s Taylor Massey and Paschal’s Hoby Milner.
The offensive most valuable player was Paschal’s Geoffrey Davenport and Mansfield Summit’s Quinn Sharp was selected as the defensive most valuable player.
Watson shared the sophomore of the year honors with Summit’s Cody Dickson.
The co-coaches of the year were Art Senato from Summit and Steve Smith from Paschal.
The other first-team pitchers were Ryan Behmanesh from Summit, Will Lane from Mansfield and Tyler Nurdin from Paschal.
Weatherford’s Colton Matlock was the first-team catcher, and he was joined on the infield by Summit second baseman Richard Sanguinetti, Mansfield Timberview shortstop Patrick Durland, Paschal shortstop Jonah Johnston and Mansfield third baseman Wade Coker.
The designated hitter was Summit’s Toby Semler and the first-team outfield consisted of Granbury’s Hunter Blackman, Weatherford’s Colton Burnett and Timberview’s Chad Downey.
Mansfield’s Michael Smith was the first-team utility player.
The second-team pitching staff consisted of Matt Guinn (Mansfield), Jack Mabe (Granbury), Colton Rhodes (Weatherford), Greg Shaw (Summit) and Noah Syndergaard (Mansfield Legacy).
The catcher was Granbury’s Tres Galvan and the first baseman was Mansfield’s Mike Miller.
Montez was joined at second base by Granbury’s Brian Hadaway and Weatherford’s Drew Wirsing.
Weatherford’s Colton Davis was the second-team shortstop and Paschal third baseman Mike Goetz rounded out the infield.
The second-team outfield consisted of Kirby Campbell (Paschal), Matt Hannagan (Granbury), Kal Saldana (Mansfield), Joey Sitzman (Summit) and Rustin Thomas (Timberview).
