AUSTIN — University of Texas senior pitcher Meagan Denny was named Big 12 Conference Pitcher of the week April 22 after tossing four complete games and posting a 3-1 record.
The award is the sixth weekly honor of Denny’s career and the second of 2008.
Denny allowed just five earned runs in four appearances, while fanning 40 batters and allowing just two walks.
The Crowley native carried a no-hitter into the final inning against Texas Tech on April 17 and took a perfect game into the final frame against Missouri on April 19. In her three victories, she allowed just nine hits in 19 innings.
In her first start of the week against Sam Houston State, Denny scattered five hits and allowed one run in seven innings of work, while striking out 16 batters and walking none.
The next night against Texas Tech, the senior hurler tossed another complete game, going five innings, surrendering one run on two hits, striking out nine and walking one.
In Game 1 of Texas’ weekend series with Missouri, the senior fireballer tossed her third complete game in four days, going seven innings, allowing one run on two hits, walking none and striking out nine.
She carried a perfect game into the seventh, but a Tigers’ bunt broke up her bid at perfection.
In her second start against Mizzou, Denny fired her fourth complete game of the week, allowing four runs and striking out six.
