Dear Editor:
I have been an avid supporter of the Crowley ISD since my family and I moved into the school district in 1972. I have supported many of the past bond elections and have worked with past school administration on many student-athlete programs. I have seen the district grow from a single 3A high school to its current 4A and 5A high schools.
I however cannot support the current bond proposal because of one item! The last-minute addition for moving the school administration out of the city of Crowley.
The CISD was founded in the city of Crowley and has been supported by its citizens for many years. The heart and soul of the CISD is in Crowley.
The proposal to move the administration to be more centrally located does not make complete sense to me. Even on a bad traffic afternoon I can drive from Risinger Road to my house in six to eight minutes and my house is right across the street from the old admin building.
It seems there is more need for a new centrally located alternative campus rather than spending taxpayer money for an administration building that is not currently needed nor will it be any more functional than the existing facility.
Because of this part of the bond package, my family and I will not support the bond proposal. There are many other Crowley citizens that will oppose this as well.
I realize that the citizens of Crowley are now in the minority in numbers, but remember, the founding fathers of the CISD were the citizens of Crowley. Even on your home page, three of the five pictures are of city of Crowley campus locations.
As a resident of the CISD and a Crowley ISD taxpayer, I go on record as opposing this move out of Crowley.
As a member of the city council of Crowley, I would say the city would support the CISD to remain in the city in any way we could.
Councilman Johnny Shotwell
Crowley
